5-17-18

Today the class began the day by discussing some of the things we witnessed on our scavenger hunts yesterday. We spoke about what we found to be the most challenging things to deal with being in a foreign country and trying to negotiate around the city. We performed an exercise to show the ethical dilemmas that occur engineering. After we finished our discussions in the morning, we were released for the day to begin on our second scavenger hunt. This time focusing on fewer areas to discover, but with more things in each area to analyze. The first area we traveled to was Markthalle Neun. The indoor space was crammed with different food vendors ranging from ice cream, high-end meats, and craft beers. A gentleman native to New Zealand who ran one of the stands approached us to our surprise as he knew that we were travelers and had apparently never been to the area before. He showed us around the entire market and gave us the local insight for the best stands and foods to try as newcomers to Germany.

After some lengthy travel on the U-Bhan, and discovering that we were unable to enter one of the locations we originally planned on going to, we stumbled upon our final destination for the day. It was an incredibly unique rooftop garden called KlunkerKranich in Neukolln. The garden was placed on the roof of a Library above the parking garage. Gardens were surrounding the entire roof. Plants were set in boots, there was a section to order beers at a bar and lots of crazy pieces of art. Needless to say, it has been one of the coolest and most unique hang out locations I have visited or seen here.
